Always carry yourself like you just got best photo in Americas Next Top Model even when your life feels like you’re constantly in the bottom two

In case none of you are aware, NASA released a statement last week regarding the rapidly increasing rate of melting of the Antarctic glaciers that has left many, including myself, terrified. In 20 years time, the sea level is guaranteed to rise by 6-10 feet, and while that doesn’t sound like a big deal, rest assured, it’s a big fucking deal. I live on the southern coast of Long Island, New York. I live AT sea level. In 20 years time, my childhood home will be washed away, submerged under the surface of the Atlantic; the beaches where I learned how to surf and swim buried beneath the new, risen coastline. New York City will become an Atlantis of sorts, blocks upon blocks of the five boroughs we know and love will lie underwater. This is my reality. This is OUR reality. This is not a prediction, it is a warning. This is our future. This is what mankind has done to our planet. We’ve made our bed.

And now we get to drown in it.

When I loved myself enough, I began leaving whatever wasn’t healthy. This meant people, jobs, my own beliefs and habits – anything that kept me small. My judgement called it disloyal. Now I see it as self-loving.
